The celebrated British actress Mirren, already holder of an Oscar, several BAFTA honors, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, will soon earn an additional esteemed prize to her collection: the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Ceremony Details

The actress, octogenarian, previously honored as a dame during 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will accept the accolade during a presentation on the eighth of January, three days before the main Golden Globes occur, within a ceremony promoted by the Globes as the Golden Eve event.

Also part of the event will be the presentation of the organization’s Carol Burnett prize for television achievement, the honoree for which remains unannounced. The prior year’s honorees included Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as a powerhouse performer, and her career is nothing short of remarkable,” remarked Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “Her transcendent performances and devotion to her art constantly motivate countless performers and viewers as well. We are deeply honored to award her the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Notable Roles

Mirren gained prominence during the seventies through significant parts in stage productions at London’s West End and through the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies including O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her prominent part in detective drama Prime Suspect expanded her audience even more. Other key films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her portrayal as the Queen in 2006 film The Queen, a part she returned to during 2013 within The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan regarding the encounters involving the monarch and premier Margaret Thatcher, a role for which she earned a Tony during 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Later-career movies feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is increasing about her portrayal as an ailing family head in Kate Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, she will appear as Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations are set to be revealed December 8, with the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
