The player, aged 40, inked a fresh deal with the Lakers in the month of June and will become the first athlete to participate across 23 distinct seasons.
Sciatic pain is a pain in the sciatic region that extends through the back and into the leg.
The athlete has not taken part in preseason and missed the games against the Warriors and the Phoenix earlier this month as a result of the sciatic problem.
The veteran is expected to be sidelined for all five of the team's games in October, featuring the opening match against the Warriors.
