President Trump Invites Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the government to suspend refugee claims and halt issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
