The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
